We are pleased to offer for sale a Chinese Nephrite Jade Pole Finial. The carving depicts a Qianlong-style dragon with a large banner-like tail section and ornate wings that form the head of a phoenix. The piece is three-dimensionally carved with archaistic C-scrolls and incised decoration. Inspiration for such a piece would've evolved from Sung Dynasty examples that would've served as fittings for dynastic standards or finials for staffs. This example has two circular holes for attachment to such a staff pole. The underside is marked with a Qianlong inscription, likely a scholarly saying or poem.
